How can I improve my recurve bow accuracy?

By Natalie Ross

How can I improve my recurve bow accuracy?

So far, I’m using the following techniques to be accurate:

  1. Stance: Left foot slightly in front of my right (I’m right handed); shoulders square.
  2. Shooting grip: One over, two under.
  3. Anchor point: Index finger to corner of mouth.
  4. Aim: Eyes on center circle of target the whole time.
  5. Deep breath in.

How do you shoot a bow more accurately?

Grip your bow with a relaxed, closed hand. A tight, white-knuckle grip will tense your entire bow arm and severely degrade accuracy. Most top bow shots lightly touch their thumb to forefinger or middle finger in front of the grip. If you cannot seem to master a loose grip, try an open bow hand with a wrist sling.

How far is a recurve bow accurate?

The accurate range for target shooting for the recurve bow is between 60 to 100 yards. For hunting, the effective range of the recurve bow is somewhere between 20 yards and 40 yards, depending on the draw weight of the bow and the archer’s competency.

What is the Bowsight aiming method?

instinctive aiming
With bow sights, you line up the appropriate sight pin on the target. With instinctive aiming, you simply look at the intended target with both eyes open and release.

What is a common bow shooting error?

Rushing to place your fingers on the string is one of the most common archery mistakes. Taking a second look at your finger placement can pay big dividends for your shot. Hooking the bowstring with too much finger tension – or in the wrong place on the fingers – can cause many issues.

Why is my bow shooting all over the place?

One of the most common reasons for shots being consistently off target is that you’re shooting arrows with a weak spine. Arrows that are too weak for your bow will cause them to bend too much in flight, making them hit off target.

How far will a 45 lb recurve bow shoot?

Bows of 45 to 55-pound draw weight will easily provide enough force to reach the vitals of a whitetail on a typical bow shot of 20 yards or less.

What is the best anchor point for drawing a bow?

Drawing and Anchoring the Bow

  • The anchor point may be the corner of your mouth, your cheekbone, or your chin.
  • Practice will help you determine your best anchor point—one that’s both comfortable and provides the most accurate shooting.
  • Your fingers should touch the same anchor point each time you draw the bow.

Why do I keep shooting left with my recurve bow?

As mentioned there are lots of reasons you might be shooting to the left: improper form/alignment, collapsing, plucking the string, anchor position, moving the bow arm, improper grip and torqueing the bow and more. You cannot tune the bow until you have resolved all these issues and are shooting consistently.
